Historical events in the life of St Silas church

A written account in pen and ink

Before St Silas was recently sold to a new developer, we had the opportunity to go in there and do as much recording of the church as we could.

We took photograps, did filming, asked people about their memories of the church, gathered old photographs and memorabilia and did some archaeological building recording.

The previous developer, Maurice, was very kind to help us with our project. One of the things he gave us was a framed picture that he had discovered in the church which listed, in ink pen, various key monumental moments in the church’s history between (before) 1860 to 1936.

It is a remarkable insight into the day to day development of the church and one wonders why it wasn’t continued after 1936?

N.B We scanned it in two halves so the two images overlap.
