The OUR Broomhall community heritage project was originally initiated by Sharon Gill, manager of the Broomhall Centre, and local resident Chris Richardson who had previously run a similar local project called Broomhall Stories.
Sharon and Chris got their heads together and decided to design a heritage project that would both research Broomhall’s history from the distant past to within living memory and celebrate the vibrance of the neighbourhood today.
With the help of Jennie Beard and various partners and organisations they successfully applied for a Your Heritage Lottery grant and found out they were successful in December 2012.
The project began in March 2013 and has welcomed the support from the following organisations:
- The Oral History Society
- University of Sheffield (Institute of Lifelong Learning and the Department of Archaeology)
- Sheffield Archives and Local Studies (part of Sheffield City Council)
- The Broomhall Group of Groups
- Unity Gym
- The Broomhall Centre
- E.D.E.N Film Productions
We are also grateful for the support of our local Member of Parliament, Mr Paul Blomfield (Labour).
We thank them all for their contributions.
