Carnival costumes over the years: a gallery of photos
The costumes and banners on display were one of the highlights of the whole festival. Children, their parents and Broomhall centre staff would work tirelessly to get them ready for the summer event. Full of colour and originality, the children taking part would parade around Broomhall leading the floats and bands. The pictures show the costumes that made the carnival procession a feast for the eyes, one of the reasons why so many came to see it from all areas of Sheffield.

The Carnival was originally ‘Broomhall Summer Fair’. It was promoted as Broomhall Summer Carnival by Chico Giscombe, and I think the first time it was called that was around 1985.
