Reminiscences of Local Broomhall Pubs
In the past, Broomhall was extremely well-served by ale-houses and pubs. Sadly most have now gone.
In these audio clips below, past and present residents recollect the names of some of these ‘disappeared’ pubs, and tell some stories about what used to go on…
Josie Moore’s grandparents were pub pianists, so she knew the names of many of the local drinking establishments.
Malcolm also remembers his father introducing him to the Scarborough Arms on Milton St.
Jillian Creasy talks about how their disappearance reflects the present community.
Mary Roberts talks with local residents Lorraine Martin and Linsey Taylor Auad about a family memory of the Hanover Pub.

I lived on bath st from 1939 until 1961 i recalled 28 local pubs within a quarter of an hours walk from where i lived that didnt include any on eccleshal rd: i counted them to be over the `quarter hour walk away.
Hi- would anyone be happy to share any pictures (internal or external) of any Broomhall pubs for a Sheffield pubs project I’m working on. I’d be interested in any other info/ anecdotes that you have and i’d be happy to receive any info via here or by my email – sheffieldpubs@outlook.com
If I use any pictures in my publication I will provide a picture credit to the photographer. I am seeking your original pictures and not pictures from sites such as Picture Sheffield.
Thanks in advance
Jamie
