Geophysics Event: TARA Funday ~ July 2013
Hanover Flats
In the summer of 2013, during the local TARA fun day, we carried out some geophysical surveying on a small patch of grass near the Hanover tower block. We knew from old maps that the area used to be covered in back to back houses and before that, what seemed more like Georgian terraces, particularly ‘Swiss Terrace’ and ‘Swiss Place’. In old directories we found that Henry Worth, a builder, lived there, as did Charles Thwaite, a ‘sen. cutler’.
The geophysical survey picked up the cellars of Swiss Terrace, which are still underneath this piece of grass. A full archaeology dig here could reveal more!
